Candle Care Tips

Happy Tuesday!

We hope everyone is getting ready to enjoy a relaxing 4th of July holiday! If you have a MillTown candle burning in your future...we're creating this blog post for you! Today, we're sharing the three most important wooden wick candle care tips. These are especially helpful if your candle doesn't want to stay lit! Let's jump right in...

Step One: After lighting your candle, let it burn until it reaches a full melt pool. This means that the melted wax reaches the edges of the jar. This usually takes about two hours. By letting your candle reach a full melt pool it promotes:

  • Even Burning: Letting your candle reach a full melt pool prevents "tunneling." This happens when only a small portion of the wax around the wick melts, leaving a tunnel down the center of the candle. Tunneling can shorten the overall burn time and waste wax.

  • Maximized Scent Throw: When the entire top layer of wax is melted, it releases the maximum amount of fragrance into the air. This creates a stronger and more consistent scent throughout your room.

  • Extended Candle Life: By allowing the candle to burn evenly, you ensure that all the wax is used efficiently, extending the life of your candle.

  • Step Two: Trim the end of the wick before lighting your candle. This can be repeated each time you burn and can be done by simply pinching off the loose charred ends at the tip of the wooden wick. This is important for several reasons including:

    • Cleaner Burn: Trimming the wick prevents soot buildup and reduces the likelihood of smoke, resulting in a cleaner burn.

    • Increased Burn Time: By promoting an even burn and preventing excessive wax consumption from a large flame, trimming the wick can extend the overall burn time of the candle by promoting an even burn. Our candles can burn for 60+ hours!

Step Three: Enjoy! Grab your favorite MillTown candle and relax this 4th of July!

We hope that this information has been helpful, especially for the candle lovers out there! If you have any questions that we can answer, leave a comment below!
